〔晋朝〕干宝序
虽考先志于载籍，收遗逸于当时，盖非一耳一目之所亲闻睹也，又安敢谓无失实者哉。卫朔失国，二传互其所闻，吕望事周，子长存其两说。若此比类，往往有焉。从此观之，闻见之难，由来尚矣。夫书赴告之定辞，据国史之方册，犹尚若此；况仰述千载之前，记殊俗之表，缀片言于残阙，访行事于故老，将使事不二迹，言无异途，然后为信者，固亦前史之所病；然而国家不废注记之官，学士不绝诵览之业，岂不以其所失者小，所存者大乎。今之所集，设有承于前载者，则非余之罪也。若使采访近世之事，苟有虚错，愿与先贤前儒，分其讥谤。及其著述，亦足以发明神道之不诬也。群言百家，不可胜览；耳目所受，不可胜载。
亦粗取足以演八略之旨，成其微说而已。幸将来好事之士，录其根体，有以游心，寓目，而无尤焉。
